African Mamas Crafts
African Mamas Crafts was started in 2015 by BSc (Hons) Geography graduate Nomaswazi Tinus out of a desire to address the urbanisation challenges faced by rural women when they move into cities.
We deliver products that go beyond visual appeal: through our work with 80 rural-based female entrepreneurs we’ve created a growing network of crafters, ensuring sustainability and illustrating the resourcefulness of African women.
We believe that the mamas we work with have a God-given skill of working with their hands to craft beautiful, handwoven baskets and beadwork.
Over the past 5 years, we have impacted the lives of 80 people by providing an income of over R679k in jobs.
When one considers that the average rural household has 5 people, this means approximately 400 families have moved from a place of poverty to a sustainable income, dignity and hope.
